Jackson Brown Jr. said: “Don’t work for recognition, but do work worthy of recognition”.
Our motto: “Equip, Empower and Excel”, has always guided us in our strive to thoroughly prepare learners for the world of work, to embolden the community and to deliver training and services surpassing expectations.
The continuous hard work, commitment and willingness to walk the extra mile paid off for us and Africa Skills were lavished with phenomenal recognition over the past few months.
In March we were wonderfully surprised when we were credited for our valuable contribution towards Workplace Based Learning in the Western Cape and supporting the Apprenticeship Game Changer Initiative. Then Western Cape Premier, Helen Zille, presented Africa Skills with a Certificate of Recognition and it was accepted by our Managing Director, Elsie Harmse and Chairman, Elvis Mvulane in Cape Town.
March madness continued with the Africa Skills being awarded the National Silver Award for “Best Practice in Skills Development” in the Chemicals Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) sector.
Every two years the National Skills Authority (NSA) facilitates an awards ceremony to honour the institutions and individuals who have been vital in creating opportunities for South Africans, especially youth, to realise their goals and human potential in the skills training and employment sector. Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor, remarked on this year’s awards ceremony by saying: “People love to be recognised and it is important that as a department we establish such platforms to keep people inspired to do more and better. These awards recognise the good work done by men and women of our beautiful country, who are charged with the responsibility of equipping our people with usable skills.”
Then in May month Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone Licencing Company SOC Ltd, a joint initiative of the Department Trade and Industry (the dti) – the Western Cape Government’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT), and the Saldanha Bay Municipality, awarded Africa Skills with a “Certificate of Recognition” acknowledging “Outstanding Service in Skills Development & Training”.
The appreciation on these national platforms have launched us to new heights yet again, and confirms our continued commitment towards skills development, service excellence and best practices.
Last but not least, Africa Skills celebrated and were awarded 10 Years of Membership of the George Business Chamber this year, displaying not only dedication to George and surrounding communities, but showcasing our blessed growth since the inception of the business almost 12 years ago.
Africa Skills are truly humbled and honoured by all the achievements. We believe the impact of skills development is a powerful one – particularly when delivered in a focussed and targeted manner as proudly practised by us.
The appreciation of our efforts not only to make us grateful, but motivate us to further increase our energies to positively influence the skills and services sector of our beloved country and continent. The struggles are worth it; the joy of empowering a person, young or old, to live their destiny and become the best they can be, is reward enough. Africa Skills is determined to continuously change the landscape of training and business services to the benefit of all our clients. The impact of skills development is a powerful one, particularly when delivered in a focussed and targeted manner as is practised by Africa Skills.
Our customers will remain our primary focus and the fruits of our labour will surely regenerate the power of knowledge.
